| Quantum CAD expansion sparks deployment of e-Collaboration technology |

“Best In Class SMEs meet product development objectives that drive profitability 49% to 74% more frequently than average companies” – The Aberdeen Group
How is this achieved? By leveraging e-Collaboration or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technologies to improve product development execution.
With the continuing growth of leading PCB design company Quantum CAD, the need to deploy new collaboration technology became essential.
Procedures used to track design projects implemented in 2006 proved to be ineffective when the numbers of staff and branch locations expanded.
“Keeping a close eye on tracking design work had predominantly been a manual process up until this year” commented Steve Jones, Managing Director. “However the real turning point for changing the systems and procedures was when we opened our satellite offices. We had to look for a more automated and centralised system to track and control all aspects of our workflow”.
After researching the market for a software based e-Collaboration solution, Adeon’s CXInsight for electronics proved to offer the most suitable solution to the majority of challenges facing Quantum. With its web based technology, each of the company’s offices are now able to review the status of projects via the Internet and immediately report back updates confirming such things as completed rework / change requests, time taken and perhaps most vitally there are no disparate design files held at different locations. Complete project history, costs, traceability etc. are now just a mouse click away.
Another major benefit has been the ability to tie in the hardware development division of the company and be able to accurately cost out the entire product development lifecycle from schematic to manufactured product including such elements as firmware, PCB and bill of materials revisions along the way.
As well as reaping rewards for Quantum’s own internal workflow, by deploying CXInsight across their clients, suppliers and manufacturers, it is being used to further improve effective communications and data sharing between all parties by allowing easy access to design files, drawings, component libraries etc.
Steve Jones, “By deploying CXInsight throughout the various departments of the organisation, we are now able to control project costs so much more efficiently which in turn allows us to quote our clients more accurately thereby minimising the risk of unplanned financial implications once projects are underway”
