Value Engineering Services

Value engineering (VE) is a method to improve the Value of your product by evaluating its function. Technology is continually improving, and applying value engineering to your product can help your product to keep improving, too.
Value engineering allows you to review your product’s PCB board setup, and incorporate the latest components and technology. This can help make your product more efficient, faster and better overall.
For example, thanks to technological advances, you might be able to reduce the number of components used from 8, into 1 chip with different software on top.
Even minor improvements in technology could improve performance and make your product easier to manufacture – increasing speed to market and growing margins.
And by using the latest components, you can safeguard your product against the components or software becoming obsolete.

Problems

  • High BOM costs
  • Is functionality optimised?
  • Is the technology appropriate?
  • Lead times

  • Manufacturability issues
  • Product failures
  • Supply chain adequate?

Solution

  • Component selection review
  • Design technology review
  • Manufacturing process review
  • Materials review
  • PCB layout review
  • Schematic review
  • Supply chain review

Benefits

  • Increased customer satisfaction
  • Increased product lifecycle
  • Increased product revenue
  • Lower change costs
  • Reduced failure rate
  • Reduced manufacturing costs
  • Reduced overheads

What Our Customers Say

  • Alcatel Submarine Networks have used Quantum CAD PCB Design Services for many years and have always found them to be more than capable of providing an excellent quality service.
CAD Group Leader, Alcatel Submarine Networks
  • We have been using Quantum CAD’s services as an extension of our own CR-5000 PCB Design facility and have found them to have a very professional approach to all aspects of PCB design and are keen to form a sound working/business relationship to enable both parties to benefit. This helps to reduce the liaison time when undertaking design tasks. They are always our first port of call whenever we have a design overload within our PCB Design department.
    Senior PCB Designer, Renishaw PLC
  • Communicating with Quantum CAD was straightforward; the changes were implemented quickly with no hassles. The finished board was better than we expected… Once we gave the approval to start the PCB layout, the job was completed to our satisfaction and within our time frame.
    Senior Development Engineer, CEM Systems
  • Quantum CAD designed the PCBs for our diabetes insulin patch pump and its wireless touchscreen user interface. This was the first time we’ve outsourced PCB design and Quantum CAD worked closely with us and our contract equipment manufacturer (CEM) to enable us to bring quickly to market the world’s smallest diabetes pump. Both PCBs are high density, in that they have high component counts on small form factor boards. Of particular note, the designs include 0.4mm pitch ball grid array (BGA) packaged devices and package-on-package (POP) technology. Quantum CAD’s engineers took these technologies in their stride, whilst maintaining great superb awareness. The result: the highest-yield, lowest-cost PCBs. Quantum CAD also took full responsibility of PCB (component) library development and ensured the correct revisions of files were available between all parties; using the web-based CXInsight PLM platform. Accordingly, design reviews were managed – and technical queries resolved – promptly and efficiently. We found Quantum CAD to be extremely enthusiastic, capable and knowledgeable, and they were perfect partner on such an important project.
    Project Leader, Cellnovo
  • It has always been necessary for Panasonic to have support of the highest quality and we recognise Quantum CAD as a reliable, diligent and professional company that have always been prepared to extend themselves around tight timescales.
Principal PCB Designer C.I.D, Panasonic Mobile Communications
  • Quantum CAD completed the project in a professional manner and interacted with both pcbportal and our clients effectively. Despite incomplete information, Quantum CAD delivered upgraded Gerber files to project completion date. Our customer was happy and we have pencilled in future projects for Quantum CAD to work on.

Case Study

Value Engineering – Scientific Equipment

Project: Our clients marketing team identified a new requirement based on an existing product. However, the product was from an old range of equipment and the design data was archived on an obsolete CAD system. Gerber files, PDF of the schematic and a BOM were the only files available.  The client did not have the internal resource or capacity to achieve time scales required.

Value Engineering – Power Unit

Project: Our client had an automotive control unit where the major COTS part had become obsolete. A new unit with the part replaced to satisfy service and warranty responsibilities was urgently required. However the original design files had been lost and only Gerber, PDF of the schematic and BOM files were available.
