Value Engineering: Scientific Equipment
To meet exacting product specifications
The Tech
We were approached by a client whose marketing team had identified a new application for an existing product. However, the product was from an old range and the design data had been archived on an obsolete system.
All they could find were Gerber files, a PDF of the schematic and a BOM.
With insufficient expertise or capacity to recreate the product, they got in touch with us.

Our Brief
It was critical that our new design matched the old one so that circuit functionality and performance were not affected. This would invalidate the product's certifications.
To achieve this, we would need to capture all design rules and correctly position the connectors and mechanical features.
Our Approach
We started by creating, checking and approving all the CAD models. Then we created, ensuring all required electrical design rules added check, and approved the new schematic.
To duplicate the existing placement and routing patterns, we imported the Gerber files to use as a template. Then, we exported the new Gerber files and compare these against the originals to make sure differences were minimal.
We made sure the new design still fitted into the design enclosure through 3D modelling.
The Results
The client was able to rapidly bring the product to market, leveraging an old design to create a new product line.
They reduced internal overheads by outsourcing the project. And as a result, their staff were able to focus on their core business goals.
"Outsourcing the re-engineering of our product line to Quantum CAD significantly improved our response to the market and allowed us to maintain our leadership position."
